Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Honey Facial Mask

I am really into making some of my own beauty products from home. I love taking an all-natural approach to skin care whenever I can. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my retinol, DMAE, etc., but sometimes the simplicity of a beauty product that only has a few ingredients can make you feel like you’re doing your skin a favor. This concoction has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. It is said that using this mask a couple of times a week can actually help reduce redness and the appearance of past acne scarring. I have a natural red undertone to my skin, so this mask works great for me. When you apply this, you may feel a bit of a warming sensation, depending upon how sensitive your skin is. I notice a huge difference in the appearance and texture of my skin after applying this mask. I love to apply it in the evening and relax with a good book and some hot tea. The three main ingredients of this mask are:

Cinnamon:

The cinnamon is used as a natural exfoliant. Cinnamon was originally used thousands of years ago for its antiseptic, astringent, and anti-fungal properties. The texture of the cinnamon when mixed with other ingredients helps to exfoliate and unclog your pores.

Nutmeg:

If you suffer from redness or acne scarring; nutmeg can be very beneficial. It acts as a redness reducer that helps to calm and soothe the skin.  Nutmeg lightens age spots and acne scars by turning off melanocytes, or pigment cells. It is also great for those suffering with eczema.

Honey:

Honey has the ability to absorb and retain moisture. In Egypt, women used to apply a mixture of milk & honey to keep skin looking youthful. Honey has natural antioxidant and anti-microbial benefits that help to prevent damage from free radicals. Honey absorbs impurities from the pores which makes it great for acne sufferers.

Recipe:

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp nutmeg

2 tsp honey

a few drops of jojoba oil for moisture (olive oil or vitamin E will work too)

Mix all of the ingredients together into a thick paste, apply to face and relax for 30 min. Rinse off & moisturize.  Repeat once or twice a week.

*This mask may not be ideal for very sensitive skin types.

    Hey,
I have always had bad break outs since I was 13, dry skin and redness. I’m now 17 and have only just started trying this on my skin. The result is great! My skin is soft, smooth, has way less redness and pimple free, I wish I new about this 4 years ago! :)

    • Hi Katy! I’m so excited to hear this! This made my day! I struggled with breakouts as a teen too, so I know how you feel. It’s so hard finding something that truly works. I will pass along your results with this to others I know who struggle with acne. Thanks so much for sharing!

I love this homemade facial mask. I wish I have known this 10 years ago. I am 32 yo now and still breaking out. Last week, I went to see my Aesthetician for a facial and to extract my 4 csytic acne. They were big, red, and painful to touch. The extraction was very painful but I had to get those pus out. she recommend that I try some of their products but I refused because I already tried them in the past but nothing works.

My friend told me about the Honey and Cinnamon mask. At 1st I was skiptical about it. I did some research and read a lot of positive results. So I tried the mask and leave it on for 15 minutes. It sting a little bit but it didn’t bother me. I then use my 2 fingers to tap my face. The mask is sticky and you can feel it’s pulling your skin. It pulls any dirt, whiteheads & blackheads. Then I wash it off with warm water & pat it dry. I put my homemade Toner and moisturize my face. I apply the mask every night and notice the result on the 2nd day. My skin feels soft, smooth, and it minimize my acne. I use to have those small, tiny, bumps of pimples on my forehead and now they’re gone. The scab from my 4 cystic acne came off and they’re in pinkish color. I read that nutmeg helps with the acne scarring, so tonight, I will mix nutmeg into my mask.

Tips when using this mask: DO NOT rub it on your face specially if you have a sensitive skin. It aggregate your skin. I like tapping it on my skin.
